What are Wamp Server’s features?
Managing Apache and MySQL: Wamp Server provides an administrative front-end that allows a user or admin to manage Apache and MySQL services. These services support the web sites hosted on Wamp. Furthermore, it supports switching between offline and online mode. This means that the access can be on development machine through local host, or on a deployment for live IP based access. A user can also install different releases of Apache, MySQL, and PHP. Optionally a user can switch between different releases as well.
Server Settings: Server settings can be changed, configured, and tested easily through the admin panel. The admin panel is user friendly and allows simple clicks to make appropriate changes. The settings can be accessed in a user-friendly way.
Log Access: It is easy to access the logs for both online and offline deployment. Logs allow an admin to see the accesses made by different clients and review the sessions.
Aliases: An admin can create aliases for load balancing of the server. This allows same website to be accessed through different web addresses.
GUI: Wamp Server has a web-based GUI which opens in the default browser by typing localhost. Server configuration information is shared on the landing page. All the settings can be viewed in web pages by clicking links.
What are Wamp Server’s limitations?
Wamp is primarily available for Windows based systems. It can convert a home edition to a server as well. However, Wamp is designed for Windows based operating systems and does not support Linux, Ubuntu, Mac, or Unix.
The learning curve is quite high as a user needs to have knowledge of websites, web hosting, database, PHP, MySQL, server configuration, and server management.
