What are Cool Term’s features?
Multiple Concurrent Connections:
Cool Term can use multiple connections simultaneously if multiple serial ports are available. A serial port is not parallel and transmits data serially or in sequence. To achieve parallelism or concurrent connections, one must have more hardware i.e., serial ports.
Text Display:
The messages are sent and received in text format. The common formats include text, ASCII, and HEX format. Data is sent using keypress or a ‘Send String’ dialog box. Both methods support text and HEX. Data can also be sent by copy and pasting in the terminal window. In addition to text, text files can also be sent using Cool Term. Files are useful when sending between PCs, or Desktops.
Recording:
Cool Term allows a user to record incoming messages or text files. This is so that data can be stored for later retrieval.
Echoes:
A user can perform echoes. Local Echoes of transmitted data as well and local echoes of received data. Local echoes of received data is also termed as Loop Back to sender.
GUI:
The GUI is simple, and window based. The main canvas is the terminal screen. Options and functionality are available using the menu bar. Connection can be configured using the options menu. It includes setting baud rate, parity, data bits, stop bit, and flow control on the local connection. Terminal itself can be customized based on the user’s wish. Use of Tab characters, enter key and colors can be adjusted through this menu.
What is Cool Term’s limitation?
There is no 24/7 technical support as it is a free product. The system cannot perform audio or video calls or exchange media files.
